Last week, we featured a Weatherspoon event, on the campus of UNCG, where Precious D Lovell and Dr. Sharbreon Plummer discussed the quilt exhibits currently installed in the Weatherspoon Museum. During the talk, Precious (left) noticed Jackie Shelton Green in the audience and acknowledged her impact in the installation of the Harriet’s Powers exhibit. The mutual admiration between the two scholars was obvious. The quilt exhibits are best viewed with a docent who can share the back story. Alternatively, one can read the information cards that accompany the exhibits
Precious and Jackie were both born and raised in North Carolina. Precous is a visual artist. Jackie is a writer and the poet laureate of North Carolina. Both are doing the good work, including documenting the real experiences of African American people past and present. Seeing the them together last Thursday was special and educational. We are grateful for the Weatherspoon Art Gallery and all they bring to the Greensboro Community. We always learn so much at these artists’ talks.
Happy Thursday!
