Greensboro’s Watershed Trails

Greensboro has three lakes, Lake Higgins, Townsend and Brandt. Combined, they feature between 42-50 miles of natural-surface and multi-use watershed trails.* In addition to walking, you can ride a fat-tire bike, or walk your dog on the trails. In the water, you can kayak, join the rowing group (The Carolina Rowing Center), fishing, and more.

We took the above photo along the Bald Eagel trail on Sunday afternoon, after the temperature had risen from the high 30ºs into the 50ºs. The dappled forest floor with mosses, mushrooms, decaying wood were so lovely. Signs of fall in our forests will change every week. Between mid-late November and early December, winter will have arrived in full force and the forest will be dormant. For now though, it is fun to head out and note changes. Do stay on the trails, recruit a friend, and, if you are walking a canine, take a doggie poo bag. Most of all, resist the temptation to spend time on the phone. In the spirit of the naturalist John Muir, the trails are calling and we must go!

Happy Tuesday!
