The Brightwood Inn is located at 6501 Burlington Road in Whitsett. It opened in 1950, expanded in 1950, and closed permanently curing the COVID Pandemic. The neon signage, that has gone dark, advertises SIZZLING STEAKS and CHOICE STEAKS. As you can see, the rock wall flower beds are lovely, and weathered charm of bygone years exudes from every corner. It is now in the middle of a neighborhood that is modern with houses built in the 2020s.
The Brightwood Inn’s big claim to fame is that Elvis stopped there for a late night dinner on 2/15/1956. According to Yes Weekly, he ordered a hamburger and milk en route to a show in Winston-Salem. Until it closed, booth 4 remained a shrine to Elvis. If they do tear down the building to build something modern, perhaps they can donate the booth to the Greensboro History Museum. It will be interesting to see what becomes of this property.
Happy Tuesday!
