Here at GDP, we just aren’t quite ready to let go of the folk festival photos and reflection. The above photo features the Old-Time Music Jam, led by Dr. Christen Blanton Mack at the Revity Stage in the parking lot of the Children’s Museum. For the last decade, Christen has been a prize-winning fiddler who has taught and mentored students and led the Old-Time Music Jam at UNCG. Additionally, she teaches orchestra students full-time in Guilford County Schools.

This past Sunday, the inclusive old-time group assembled to play old-time fiddle and banjo tunes. This hour-long session exemplified the type of music presented at the Revity Stage. Following Christen’s session, Dr. Mark Dillon led the Honky Tonk Jam. How wonderful to give local musicians an opportunity to come together and make music. Greensboro has so much live music, with ability levels ranging from novice players to professionals. We’re convinced the National Folk Festival Committee recognized all the local musical talent when selecting Greensboro as the site to be mentored in music festival production and to carry on the festival once the national organization moved on.
