Saturday was a big day for the LGBTQIA+ community in Greensboro.

The Pride Parade began at the corner of McGee and South Elm Streets, with decorated vehicles leading the way and participants dressed in clothing that reflected their personal expression and brought them comfort and joy. The parade made its way to Davie and Church Streets at Friendly, where the streets were filled with people, organizations, and a sea of giveaways. The photo above gives you an idea of the popularity of this event. One estimate we saw put the crowd at 60,000 people—nearly 20% of Greensboro’s population.

The Pride Festival occupied a footprint similar to what we will have for the NC Folk Festival this upcoming weekend, stretching from LeBauer Park to East Washington Street along Elm, Davie, and Church Streets. How wonderful that the Pride Festival was such a success. May the NC Folk Festival be equally well attended!
