Sedalia Elementary School was built in 1937 at the request of Dr. Charlotte Hawkins Brown. The school is actually beside the Dr. Hawkins Brown’s Palmer Institute in the Sedalia community. The Palmer Institute helped supply the infrastructure for the school, including making bricks on site. The original Sedalia School was integrated in 1971 and torn down and rebuilt in the 1980s.

We visited this past weekend while on our Burlington Road adventure. We stopped to admire the school as the light color brick really stands out on a sunny day. The angles of the building also caught our attention. This is one of those buildings where sever add-ons make the building so much larger than can be captured in a photo. Let’s hope the students, teachers, and staff have a great school year.
