When the first Friday of September is sunny, it makes for a great “First Friday.” Last night, much of Greensboro was experiencing a gully-washer, which is more conducive to snuggling indoors than promenading through the city. We made our rounds at happenings that were indoors, found some food in a restaurant where we could wait out the intense part of the deluge, but strolling the streets was difficult. There was even hail on Battleground near Edney Ridge Road (near Aldis)– as we drove in to town.

The above photo was taken in the car, from a parking space in front of “Cheesecakes by Alex.” There was something beautiful about sitting there, in stillness, with a warm cup of coffee, and waiting out the storm. We had a birdseye view of South Elm Street and watching night arrive. Shortly after 7:32, we headed home. The LFG clock serves as a time stamp!

Today from 1-3pm, there is an Historic Tour of Downtown Greensboro. Meet at the Bodega across from the Carolina Theatre. There are many other events around the city, but this is one most directly connects to the history of our city. Hope you can make it.
