1957 was a big year for Greensboro. Friendly Center opened in August, and the (then called) Natural Science Center opened in October. Both venues have continued to thrive and expand over the years. The above photo features the area under construction, located on the north side of the original science center.

The $46 million dollar expansion will feature a rainforest biome and an aquatic rehabilitation and conservation center. They will add sloths, monkeys, and clouded leopards. The new area will also have a café, retail shops, and rental spaces. We look forward to seeing it. While the new area won’t likely open before next summer, there is still plenty to see and do. If you are looking for something to do with your family, friends, or on your own, we encourage you to put the science center on your “to do” list. We’re building up the courage to try the Skywalk!*
