The Greensboro City Swim Meet has been a local tradition since 1959. The Community Swim Association coordinates this summer program. This past Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 19 teams gathered at the state-of-the-art Greensboro Aquatic Center (GAC) to compete. In 2012, the annual meet moved from the outdoor, Lindley pool venue to the GAC. This move aleviates rain delays and sunburns. As an added bonus, the GAC is the largest indoor facility of its kind in the USA. The wells range from 9-17′ deep. Imagine how special young swimmers must feel competing here.

During City Meet, all swimmers who are members of a community swim team are eligible to compete. Less competitive swimmers participate in the Thursday meet and events for faster swimmers are held on Friday and Saturday. This year, the Friendly Frogs won the Open m=Meet (Thursday). They were also Meet Champions. Plus, they raised the most money for Swim for Cancer. Congratulations Friendly Frogs, but let us remember, in swimming camaraderie and bettering your scores are equally important. Summer swimming is such a great way for children to stay in shape and have good, meaningful, summer fun. Here is a link to the names of the teams and results. If your familiy didn’t participate this year and are interested, now is the time to start visiting pools and learning more about the sport. Swimmers age 5-18 are eligible and students can swim the summer after their high school graduation, as long as they are 19 or under.
