South Davie Street just got a little livelier. Unfettered Books at 337 S Davie Street opened three weeks ago in a building that formerly housed a Barber Shop. The 120 year old building is the perfect spot for a bookstore. Located behind Natty Greene’s and Chandler’s Coffee Shop, Unfettered adds yet another option for spending quality time downtown. Their goal is to appeal to a younger demographic of readers. Currently popular with the 15-25 year old readers are mystery, mystic, horror, gothic, and science fiction; and they have quite a collection.
Owner Brian Barbour (photographed above), has a master’s degree in English from UNCG. He specializes in books written by American authors who wrote from the end of the 19th century to the mid-20th century. He is open to stocking any books of interest to his customers and loves to talk about books. Brian, who teaches English at GTCC, is committed to keeping people reading physical copies of books.
Unfettered is open 12-7pm Wed.-Sat. and and 11-5pm on Sunday. They have a co-mingled assortment of new and used books. They also have an assortment of coffee and hot and cold drinks.
