Last night, Greensboro bars with big screen TVs were filled with fans watching the USA/Belgium match. Unfortunately for the USA, we do not advance. While the city’s highly-successful, community watch parties may have ended, Greensboro’s enthusiasm for world soccer continues in full force. Our city’s FIFA guest team, Norway, is indeed advancing to the quarterfinals.
The Norway team broke their initial Greensboro base camp and has relocated closer to their upcoming tournament match venue. However, the Norway team added a layer of enthusiasm and buy-in for soccer that will stay with us for a long time. Also, we’ve got NC Fusion, Greensboro United, the YMCA program, K-12 school programs, college programs, soccer tournament events and more. With each generation, Greensboro’s enthusiasm for soccer grows. The FIFA World Cup final is scheduled for July 19th. We’ve got two more weeks to talk soccer! We hear the rhythmic chant of the Viking Row!
