The Greensboro Elks Lodge #602 was chartered in 1900. The origin of the organization dates to 1868. Lodge #602 is located at 2201 West Cornwallis Drive, with the magestic, bronze elk guarding the entrance. Membership is by invitation from a current member, and the individual must be an American citizen, believe in God, and be at least 21 years old. Their ideals include charity and patriotism.*
We took this photo on November 22, the date of the annual BBQ Cookout. It was fun talking to the teams and hearing them talk about what made their BBQ stand out. Of course many recipes are secret. The meat was provided, it was up to the teams to cook it to perfection and in a sauce that resonated with the voting tasters. The first place winners receive $1,000 and a $500 donation to the charity of their choice.
The Elks lodge is an affordable community organization with a youth summer swim program, affiliated with the Community Swim Association of Greensboro, that has been the delight of many families over the years.
Happy Friday! See you downtown!
