The above mailboxes are located at Golden Antiques, just north of Greensboro on US 220. The boxes took on a special glow at night; however, they got us thinking about how little we use the USPS these days. Do you still send surface mail? cards? Or, is most of your correspondence virtual? Many businesses have virtual billing and generating of permits and other information that used to come in the mail.

No mail USPS post offices in Greensboro have closed recently. As a matter of fact, the new post office in Friendly Center opened in 2022, replacing the one near Cheesecake Factory. However, in 2025, 10 Roads Express, a USPS contractor, closed in early 2025 due to reduced surface mail volume. This closure affected mail movement locally. There is something charming about a row of mailboxes, especially when people add a little bit of personality to their mailbox.

We remember this Emily Dickinson quote, “A letter is a joy of Earth.” Do you still get joy from letters? Perhaps we should all sit down and write each other letters.
