Green Street Parking Deck & Lincoln Financial Group Building

When we were downtown this past weekend, at the corner between Governmental Place and the Carolina Theatre, we were struck at the beauty of this downtown view. In the foreground is the Greene Street Parking Deck and in the background is the Lincoln Financial Group Building. We’re having trouble verifying this, but our research is leading to the fact that the parking deck was built in 1972, but over the years, the city has adorned the outer wall with pottery art– small models of vehicles, specifically. Those partial discs on the corner light up at night, making them a great landmark.

The building in the background is the Lincoln Financial Building.  In 1990, it was  built as the Jefferson-Pilot Building, beside the Jefferson Standard Building. The two structures in the photo are icons of very different decades, but are both well recognized as downtown landmarks. The street light and trees add a special beauty to the scene. Sometimes, downtown, it is fun to just stop and see what can be seen from a given vantage point- especially on a sunny day when he skies are blue.

Happy Tuesday!
