Irving Park United Methodist Church opened in the 1950s at a time when the Irving Park and Kirkwood neighborhoods were expanding. It is located at the corner of West Cone Boulevard and Lafayette Avenue on three acres. Not only do they have a thriving congregation, they host a boy scout troop and many other groups. The above photo is of the sanctuary one Saturday morning when one person was inside, possibly the preacher or the music director preparing for Sunday service. The stained glass windows were so beautiful and cast a warm glow in the sanctuary. The windows are an abstract design, as opposed to windows that teach about the Bible. The church looks very different when filled with people. With or without people, however, it is lovely.
