Yesterday afternoon the “This CommUnity Sings” event was held at The Carolina Theatre. It was a free event of singing with planned audience participation. Everything about the event was perfect from the venue , to the musical team, to the songs chosen for Music Director Brittany Kaehler to teach the audience- “Under the Sea”, “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, and “Mamma Mia”.
The above photo is of Red Kalyna, a Ukrainian group singing “Chervona Ruta” at the beginning of the program. “Chervona Ruta” is a popular Ukrainian folk song, widely sung in Eastern Europe. The lyrics tell of a mythical flower that brings happiness in love to a young girl who happens to find one of the flowers blooming red- something that, according to legend, only happens on the eve of summer solstice . Featured from left to right, members of the group, Peggy Boswell, Iryna Tkachenko, David Thompson, and Larry Vellani. We hope more community singing events are scheduled. “CommUnity Sings” was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all who participated, making this event possible- especially the sponsors!
Happy Monday!
