Temple Emanuel Greene Street

Today’s photo features the Temple Emanuel building on North Greene Street. It was built in 1923 in Fisher Park, a block from Trinity Episcopal and across the street from First Presbyterian. The Neoclassical Revival style is elegant in its simplicity. The Corinthian portico with capitals were inspired by The Temple of the Winds motif in Rome.* The architect was Hobart Upjohn from New York City.

In 2003, the congregation moved to Jefferson Road, but the above building is still used for special events and some services are still held there. At the Jefferson Road location today, at 12:30, an information session will be held for those interested in participating in The March of the Living. Temple Emanuel is a dynamic congregation; members are very involved in serving not only their religious community but also do so much for the City of Greensboro.
