It has been about six years since we featured an Osage orange on Greensboro Daily Photo. The ones from 2012 were bright green. The above fruit is yellow and looks especially bright in the recycled cat litter bucket. The Osage orange grows on a tree and the wood is especially versatile. The Native Americans used it for making bows because it is strong, flexible, and durable. Also, the wood burns at a very high temperature.

While the trees are widely distributed throughout the United States, they are not popular in urban and suburban areas because, if the land on your vehicles, they leave very big dents. The above mammoth fruit was found at Reconsidered Goods. We’re betting the came from that tree in the Westerwood neighborhood as it has been dropping fruit lately. The sure do look lovely in bouquets- whether on tablescapes or cat litter buckets. As you prepare your home for Thanksgiving remember beauty abounds outside in Greensboro this time of year.
