The Reynolda House Museum of American Art is only about a 30- 40 minute drive from Greensboro. It is a lovely, well-appointed house built in 1917 by Katharine Smith Reynolds and R.J.Reynolds, founder of the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. The estate was originally their home- over 1,000 acres in Winston. In the 1960’s, their house became a museum, dedicated to American art. 

The current exhibit features American artist, Georgia O’Keefe and offers an array of her paintings, her clothing, and photographs of and by her. Additionally there are two, short video clips about her visual inspiration in New Mexico, one of her sculptures, and a brooch, that she wore often, designed for her by Alexander Calder. The above photo, Manhattan, is O’Keefe’s rendition of New York City. If you like American art and want to plan out a nice day trip for yourself, consider spending it at Reynolda House in Winston. You get not only a chance to come to know Georgia O’Keefe, her life and her art, you will also tour a lovely home, owned by a prominent Winston family.
