LimeBike Bicycles: In Motion!

Bicycles are taking UNCG’s campus by storm and, yesterday, WXII NEWS was on campus to feature them. LimeBike, UNCG, and the City of Greensboro are working together to make the hi-tech bicycle venture work. There is no kiosk or docking station as the bikes work with a phone app. a 30 minute ride is 50 cents for university students and employees and $1.00 for the general public. The system is accessible and reasonably priced. To pick up or drop off a bike, you just have to know where to pick up and drop off bicycles. When you log on to the app, you can track the bike that is closest to you. Each bike has anti-theft locks and alarms. When you are finished riding, all you have to do is push down the rear wheel lever to lock the bike. The app will provide you with a trip summary and you are no longer responsible for the bike.*

LimeBike is a California startup and UNCG is their first campus. They selected UNCG because of Greensboro’s weather and the fact that UNCG is a bike friendly community (reference). If you are interested, you really ought to try one out this summer while there is less traffic. The first ride is free and, even with UNCG’s campus expanding, you can get from one end to the other in less than 30 minutes.
