Kirkwood Place

On the western edge of the Kirkwood neighborhood is Kirkwood Place; due to open September 2017. It will have 17,000 square ft. of ground floor retail and 57 residential units above.  Likely, adding this many units will change the face of the neighborhood. Kirkwood Place is located right across the street from Lawndale Crossing, where Target is located (the vantage point of this photo). It is built on the piece of land formerly housing the Beaman Building. Razing the Beaman Building erases the classic 60’s architecture on Lawndale.

It will be interesting to monitor the progress of one of Greensboro’s newest construction projects. See below the old Beaman Building, a photo we took for Greensboro Daily Photo eight years ago. When we started this website, the intent wasn’t to document the the changes and the buildings that have been replaced; however, indeed we are finding that many of the places are now gone- the price of progress. To be sure, our bank of then & now photos is growing.
