Greensboro is brimming with visitors this weekend as it is homecoming at North Carolina A&T University. The event is referred to as GHOE, the Greatest Homecoming on Earth. Today is the parade and the football team is playing Florida A&M University. However, events have been going on all week and the celebration is well under way. On South Elm Street yesterday afternoon, we spotted the FROZEN-mobile- parked in the south 200 block. The owner of this Chevrolet Corvette convertible is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. Alpha Phi Alpha is the first African American Greek lettered fraternity. Its aims are “manly deeds, scholarship, and love for all mankind.” The organization emphasizes leadership, service, and working for important causes and social issues. Famous members include, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Jesse Owens, Thurgood Marshall, Andrew Young and Lionel Richie.
We were curious about the meaning behind the vanity tag, as “FROZEN” is associated with the Disney movie of the same name. We waited around to see if the owner would return to the vehicle, but did not see him. There has got to be a great story behind this vanity tag. Perhaps he is associated with the movie. Regardless, we hope he is having a great homecoming and that he is living up to the great legacy of his fraternity. Have fun everyone, and drive safely. From 11:00 am to 5:00 pm today Elm Street will be filled with children out trick or treating at the downtown businesses. We’re hoping for all treats and great weather!
