This weekend was one of about seven that Guilford Militia members camp and reenact at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park. Guilford Militia is a North Carolina History Society, founded in 1980, dedicated to portraying military history in this region in the mid to late 18th century, the time of the Revolutionary War.

The above group was set up on the Lawndale Avenue side of GCNMP. Members  of the organization are really friendly and love talking to people and telling them details about life in the 18th century. This weekend, there were about 12 people who participated in the event. Their biggest event is during the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, always held mid-March. While the militia members won’t be there today, the park is still open and it is great exercise to get out and walk, seeing the monuments and reading the history. Plus, there are a lot of unexpected surprises in the park. For example, we had no idea we would stumple on the above group while out walking our dogs this weekend.
