Hank Williams Tribute on Doodad Farm

Saturday, a Hank Williams Tribute afternoon was held at Doodad Farm in Southeast Greensboro, just off McConnell Road. Those who had a “hankerin’ for Hank Williams got a real treat. Dean Driver, who lives at the farm, organized the event. Many local musicians, including Sam Frazier and Laurelyn Dossett (playing above)*,  volunteered their time and great music for the event. Entry was by donation and money raised went to “Voices Together” a Durham non-profit  that provides music for children with special needs. Another goal of the event was to introduce the music of Hank Williams to the younger generation of musicians. We are so lucky to have unique venues like Doodad Farm in Greensboro. With a field, a stage, a vision, and a lot of hard work and volunteers, the Hank Williams Tribute became a reality and was well attended– even in spite of a weather-related change of date.

At the festival, they had a station where attendees could illustrate their favorite Hank Williams song on cardboard. This, coupled with horse rides, provided additional activities for children and others who wanted to get up and move around. The illustration below (Lovesick Blues) was our personal favorite. What fun! Can you name that tune? Put your guess in the comments, below. If nobody lists it in the comments, we’ll post the answer tomorrow!

(Hint: The last word in the title has to do with the color of the chairs in the back row, above).
