Memorial Day 2016

Above is the War Memorial Monument that originally stood inside War Memorial Auditorium at the Coliseum on Gate City Boulevard. When the auditorium was torn down, this monument was moved to Lindsay Street near the Greensboro Historical Museum and Central Library. It has the names of all the soldiers in Greensboro who have given their life defending the United States– since WWII. There is a flag for each branch of the military. The iron benches allow an opportunity for reflection.

If you have a veteran in your life, especially one who can’t drive, please consider driving him/her to this spot today. Another meaningful outing would be a visit to the Carolina Field of Honor. They will have a service at 11:00 am today. (Read more, here). If you are only able to visit, here, virtually, we want to also share a close up of the above inscription so that you can read it– below.

Happy Memorial Day. It is still hard to believe that Congressman Coble is no longer with us to give a speech today.
