After a hard work week, and a week of gloomy weather, a good dose of nature can be as uplifting as just about anything. The above photo shows the translucency of a peony at sunset. Peonies are in full bloom this week in Greensboro, and, the ones that survived the torrential downpour last night, opened their petals, full-throttle. In the middle of the photo, you can see the yellow tint of the setting sun, seemingly just behind the peony– only really 93 million miles away.
Did you know Greensboro has a peony farm? For almost 20 years, the Wrenn family, through their business The Peony Patch, has been growing and shipping peonies around the world. According to their website, this area has a fantastic climate and soil for peonies. We’re betting the Fresh Market, sells the Wrenn’s freshly-cut peonies as The Fresh Market has lovely bouquets. Thanks to the cooler weather, peonies have bloomed a little later this year. See the Wrenn’s website (here) and also an article about them in garden and gun magazine (here).
If you have a chance, get out and enjoy nature this weekend. It is such a great way to recharge and you may be able to track down peony blooms. Magnolias are also blooming. Happy Saturday!
