Today is theme day for the City Daily Photo community around the world. The March theme is “heimat” which in German means something along the lines of “homeland; being comfortable and happy; and feeling that this is the place you belong.” For “heimat,” we’re sharing this view of Elm Street Center. Elm Street Center shows how Greensboro has worked hard to bring the downtown area back to life and the way we like to keep the building’s façade intact, yet make the it functional for the 21st century.
The above photo was taken on Saturday night when the men on the balconies were in suits and ties, enjoying the balmy night air. Were it not for the cars, one would think the photo was taken in the 1950’s. The building dates to 1949, when it was built for the locally-owned Ellis Stone Department Store. Today, Elm Street Center has two elegant ballrooms, The Empire Room and the Regency Room and they stay booked.
A special thanks to Mainz Daily Photo, for introducing the CDP community to a new word and the place JB considers his “heimat.” See the “heimat” entries from around the world, here.
