J is for Janis & Jane

Janis and Jane are great friends and have a lot in common. They are both from West Virginia and both came to Greensboro to teach language methodology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Both love teaching languages and helping future teachers learn to teach languages. Jane retired in 1996 and Janis teaches currently for the Guilford County Schools. They are working on a history of foreign language education in North Carolina and have had a great time interviewing people who have been professionally active in the language community.  In her retirement, Jane has taught at Shepherd Center and likes reading and spending time with friends.

Jane and her family came to Greensboro in 1958, planning to stay for only three years. However, Jane loved her job at UNCG, finding the colleagues to be inviting, helpful, and welcoming. She liked the community so much, she continued to work at the University for 36 years. Janis and her family have been here since 1996 and they also like calling Greensboro home. While Janis and her husband have been the driving force behind Greensboro Daily Photo, Jane works tirelessly behind the scenes helping them find people to interview and giving them ideas for posts. When arriving at the letter “J” for this ABC Wednesday series, their feature person cancelled. So, at the last minute, laughing, Janis and Jane realized that the die was cast and the camera lens was turned on them. So, today is ABC Wednesday and “J” is for the doppelgänger duo, Janis and Jane, who hope to continue collaborating, talking about current events, and contributing to this blog for a very long time.
