Sunday is a day for spiritual posts which we sometimes refer to as food for thought. Yesterday, armed only with a cell phone camera, we were at the corner of Washington and South Elm Streets. The billboard in the back reminded us that hunger is an issue, even for children in the United States. One in five kids faces hunger.
As the Jewish community anticipates Yom Kippur this Saturday- a high-holy day and day of atonement and fasting- and then Sukkot (The Feast of the Tabernacles) the following week, let’s all say a prayer that we can help reduce world hunger. Food pantries in Greensboro are rather low and the weather will soon turn cold, making it harder for people to get out and search for food. If all of us who can, help fill the local food pantries, we will be doing our part to reverse those statistics- looming above the crowds- downtown.
