Today we present you with a mystery. The above tanks are located on Burlington Road between the eastern end of Guilford County and Burlington. We’re not sure what the tanks hold or what W.A.D.E. represents. Located on the south side of Burlington Road/East Wendover, the cylindrical structures have the look of old Highway 70. Every year, this road changes significantly. Farms become housing developments, tired old cinder block businesses become strip malls, mature oak trees are replaced with Bradford pear trees and parking spaces. Progress is necessary, and not all that is old is golden; however, we sure do enjoy the old businesses with a provenance and character.
