Island Home

This house at the corner of Battleground Avenue and North Eugene Street is one of the few private residences left in that part of town. Near the baseball stadium, Deep Roots Co-op, and the new Fisher Park Apartments, this battleship gray house with the green roof is prime real estate. They even have a yard and off-street parking. However, the home reminds us of the 108-year-old farmhouse in Seattle* with skyscrapers built all around it. How long will this single story stucture endure in a town growing as much as Greensboro? Whether citizens are pro- or anti- growth or somewhere in between, communities need to ask the questions about what matters, what should be preserved and what needs to be removed to make way for progress.

For now, we’ll smile every time we drive past this street-locked house at 510 Battleground and wish WE had that address. It gives new meaning to Island home. Happy Friday! We hope your weekend is an enjoyable one. Look for us out finding new things to photograph. As we approach our 2,000th published photo, we continue to be inspired by Greensboro.
