High Point Rowing Club 2014 Regatta

Oak Hollow Lake was an exciting place to be this past Saturday. The High Point Rowing Club sponsored a dual meet against Triangle Rowing of Raleigh. In the above photo, you see the HPRC Varsity 8 Women’s crew about to cross the finish line ahead of Triangle Rowing. Both teams brought  varsity and novice crew as well as men’s and women’s. High school and middle school crews were on the water. While they didn’t compete last weekend, these teams also have mom’s boats. So, if you are interested in rowing locally, just about everyone can participate. The sport is reallly gaining momentum in the Greensboro area.

Rowing has been an olympic sport since 1900. The United States holds the most total metals in rowing (87) but with 33 gold metals East Germany (GDR)  has one more gold metal than the USA. Germany (GER) has 21. * In our lifetime, the USA should be able to change those statistics. Greensboro has a two-time Olympic gold-metal rower,  Caroline Lind. Wouldn’t it be nice to have one of HPRC’s rowers help Caroline, a Page High School graduate, add to the metal count. Let’s hope that HPRC is rowing on Oak Hollow Lake and in the Greensboro area for a very long time. Saturday’s event was such an exciting first for the Greensboro area!
