Sunday’s weather was Sunny, cool, and windy. This photo was taken at the Piedmont Triad International Airport around 4pm when the unfurled flags were evidence that the winds were strong. The airport is currently experiencing road construction with frequent traffic pattern changes and cones and signs are everywhere. The yellow sign above the unknown traveler’s head reads, “stop for pedestrian.” We got a chuckle wondering why it didn’t say “pedestrians.”
In 1927, the property for the airport was purchased from Paul and Helen Lindley, which is how Lindley Field got its name. Also in 1927, Charles Lindberg stopped here in the “Spirit of St. Louis” on his cross country tour.* My how Greensboro’s airport has changed over the last 87 years.
Today is ABC Wednesday and for our Alphabet Soup series, “L” is for Lindley Field, and Lindberg and Spirit of St. LOUIS for that matter. Happy, ABC Wednesday. It is one of our blogs most seen days as ABC’ers from around the blogosphere stop by to see what we’ve posted.
