Emilio Rojas is an artist in residence this month at the Elsewhere Artist Collaborative on Elm Street. Rojas, originally from Mexico City, comes to Greensboro via Vancouver. Rojas is an interdisciplinary artist who works a lot as a performer, photographer and videographer. The day we met Emilio, we were drawn to his work through the film he has compiled on Patricia Allison– an environmentalist very involved in sustainable agriculture and permaculture. (You can see the film about Patricia Allison being shown against a backdrop of hardback books on the little table to Emelio’s right in the above photo).

The project he is currently working on while in Greensboro involves exploring issues of racism and homophobia through a surreal narrative film. He hopes to collaborate with local community members, especially those who are socially active or personally affected by civil rights issues and issues of marginalized populations.
