This weekend, the Greensboro Aquatic Center is open for locals to stop in and see this beautiful community resource. Oh how wonderful it is to watch youngsters diving from the 7.5 and 10 meter platforms with such poise and confidence. It is also wonderful to admire this lovely facility and realize it is right here in in our own backyard to be enjoyed by EVERYBODY!
Field of Dreams said it best. “Build it and they will come.” Swimming, diving, water polo, scuba diving, synchronized swimming…… lessons and events………..spectators……swim teams…….national competitions…..a 79,000 square foot facility with nearly a million gallons of water. While many people in Greensboro were stunned at the fact that the city was spending $19 million on a swim facility in these financially austere times, the positive economic impact from the currently-booked events is already double the cost. Water event planners come here and see this spotless facility with crystal clear water, plenty of space for spectators, a nice deck, grand dive platforms, and they can’t wait to sign on the dotted line. Water time is selling fast. Yesterday, we ran into Jay Dodson and his Star Aquatics team as they are involved in the opening events (read here). The Greensboro Aquatic Center will serve our community for a very long time.
The white ceiling supports reflected in the water, among other reflections, have us participating in Weekend Reflection.
