Today is ABC Wednesday and “J” is for Jessup Grove Road. The above farm, at the corner of Jessup Grove and Lewiston Roads, is how much of Guilford County looked in earlier years. It is one of 52 homes on Jessup Grove. According to the NCSU & A&T SU Cooperative Extension Service, Guilford County has the largest horse population in North Carolina. Horses account for 4.6 million dollars of income for our county– over half of the livestock revenue. These horses on Jessup Grove live the new-rural lifestyle, meaning that they are beside several housing developments. On warm afternoons couples can be seen jogging or pushing strollers and walking their dogs past this farm. 

We featured Jessup Grove Road today because “Jessup” is a well-known name in Greensboro. Jessup Service  is a heating, air conditioning, plumbing, and refrigeration service that has been in business in Greensboro since 1950. The biggest surprise to us is that in 2001, Jessup Service Inc. was sold to Suzanne Brown. And so, a woman is behind the Jessup Service name on the softball and baseball jerseys that we will likely see again this season!

In researching the “J” streets in Greensboro, we quickly learned that there are 57 “J” streets and they are all over the map. Most locals have heard of Joyner St. near UNCG and Jefferson Road that connects Friendly Avenue to New Garden Road. However, did you know there is a J Street, a JJ Drive, a Jane Street, a Jans Court and a Justamere Farm Road?
