A little ranch house with an A-line roof and a carport is home to Branch 711 of Greensboro’s Americal Postal Worker’s Union, AFL-CIO. The building is located on 109 South Dudley Street, just south of of Market Street, between Bennett College and A&T State University. The house, itself, is reminiscent of many of its contemporaries built along Friendly Avenue.
The APWU can trace its roots back to the 1870’s and the Railway Mail Mutual Benefit Association. Currently, it represents approximately 220,000 employees and the president is Cliff Guffey. Learn more about the organization here. Benjamin Franklin became America’s first Postmaster General in 1775, before we were officially a country!
