Volvo Trucks North America is located at 7900 National Service Road, out by the Famers’ Market, just off Sandy Ridge Road/ I-40/ and Highway 68. The above view of corporate headquarters is seen on the southwest side of I-40 not too far from the Piedmont Triad International Airport. The Swedish company Volvo has been building trucks since 1928. In 1981, “A.B. Volvo purchased some assets of White Motor Corp. to form Volvo White Truck Corp., based in Greensboro, NC” (reference here). We’re not sure when the above building was built; however, 1981 is the earliest reference we see for Volvo in Greensboro, NC. The building in the photo is the Corporate Headquarters where administrative and support-functions are handled for Volvo Trucks in North America. 

This is our contribution to ABC Wednesday and “V” is for “Volvo.” In Swedish (and Latin), “volvo” means “I roll” likely related to the smoothness and efficiency of the ball bearings, NOT that the Volvos are inclined to roll!
