University General Store, Inc.

University General Store, Inc., located at 547 South Mendenhall Street, is a modern-day convenience store in an early turn of the 20th century brick building. It is located in the College Hill neighborhood on the edge of UNCG and Greensboro College. The two-story building was Greensboro’s oldest fire house and it in 1998, it was adaptively reused as a store, one of the few food stores within walking distance for many college students. This general store serves a great purpose in a part of town where getting a bag of chips or a cup of coffee to go can be easier than finding a gallon of milk.

As we approach the winter solstice, opportunities for night photography are extremely easy! In Greensboro, sunset arrives shortly after 5pm this time of year. When daylight is in short supply, photographers depend on artificial light to make photos interesting. The University General Store looks charming by night with the street lights, security lights, and neon signs. The light bouncing off that maroon car qualifies this shot to be a part of James’ Weekend Reflection!
