Yuoro.mmy, yummy, yummy! Tomatoes are all getting ripe in Greensboro. Mid-August is peak tomato season in our area. Tomatoes are one type of produce that will continue to ripen when picked. As a matter of fact, in hot temperatures, they tend not to ripen. Tomatoes crack when there are sudden or excessive rains.

It is fun to learn about produce from the farmers at the local markets. The above photos were picked from our small garden. The tiny tomatoes to the left are currant tomatoes. They are about the size of a pea. They are a distince species native to Peru and Ecuador. They grow well and are disease resistant and can really add color and flavor to a dish. However, they are TINY! We got them from a friend. Gardening in North Carolina is like that. We like to share and tell the provenance of what we grow. Most of our tomatoes are volunteers. We’re wondering if these little guys will come back next year. We’d love to be able to share them.
