Do you know where this graffiti is located in Greensboro? We saw it en route to get photos of the Presbyterian Church of the Convenant. Tate Street is currently closed due to construction of UNCG’s new Tannenbaum Center for Creative Practice, resulting in our turning on Fulton Street under the train overpass. We quickly parked the car and walked back to have a look.

There are a few bad things about graffiti. First, it is usually done without permission. Second, unless you happen to know to the artist and talk to them, you have no idea of the back story. Why did this person paint Oprah’s name? Do you know anyone named Oprah other than Oprah Winfrey? Surely, this is a 2026 nod to the great Oprah Winfreh, buy why? Third, street art is usually very temporary, at risk of being removed by the city or the owners of the building, wall, or surface area where it was created. Sometimes, others paint over it.

Likely, the story behind the art will never be revealed. We can surmise that, likely, the artist is over 18 which is the legal age to purchase spray paint. The serendipity of what we find when out photographing for Greensboro Daily Photo makes this hobby of ours so special. When we least expect it, a fun photo reveals itself.
