In a recent downtown event, the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department had a booth set up to answer questions for the public, and to showcase some of their offerings for the summer. Opportunities to have fun in public spaces, that don’t involve private memberships, is important and evidence that our tax dollars are at work.
Meet Michelle, who works for the Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation Department (AIR). AIR offers specialized sports, social events, and inclusion support for residents of all abilities. These are opportunities one might never know about, in the absence of having a special need or a child with special needs. Available programs include: Blind Audio Darts are available; adaptive mountain biking; wheelchair tennis; Camp Joy; and adaptive paddling at Lake Higgins (read more HERE). We are grateful to live in an inclusive city and to have people like Michelle know how to adapt activities for individuals with special needs.
