The five-piece high-energy indie rock band The Runarounds was in Greensboro last night. Young fans were queued up on South Elm Street at the Pyrle Theatre, with the line wrapping around to the Greene Street Parking Deck. If you were a fan of the streaming series Outer Banks, and you are under 30, you know the band. The group is billed as being “loud, sweaty, and unapologetically fun.” They made their debut in Season 3, Episode 7 of the show “Outer Banks” and went on to star in a coming of age series on Prime Video, “The Runarounds.”
The band was formed in 2021 by Outer Banks creator Jonas Pate. In 2020, he began searching for a genuine, young musical band in the Carolinas. There were 5,000 entries and he narrowed the selection down to five core musicians. Of the five musicians, William Lipton, Jeremy Yun, Axel Ellis, Jesse Golliher, and Zendé Murdock, Lupton and Yun had been childhood friends and had already performed together. The group is said to have really meshed as a band. Today, they write music, practice live sets, and tour together.
It was really exciting seeing the young fans downtown Greensboro waiting patiently for the opportunity to attend the concert. See HERE for an official video about the band and the series. The Pyrle opened on 2/27/26, seating about 1,000. Let’s hope they continue to attract a diverse audience and get groups of all ages coming downtown to support live music. Here’s to the start of building summer memories for this group of fans.
If you missed them last night, they’ll be in Dothan, Alabama tonight!
