The above building dates to the 1870’s and is located in Summerfield, just north of Greensboro. 7722 Summerfield Road was empty for years. In January 2024, Tom and Johanna Elsner purchased the building and began restoring it, making it structurally sound. As you can see from the “ghost sign,” formerly, the building housed Gordon’s Hardware. Today, the Elsners have opened it as a vintage goods store on the entrance level and an Air B&B upstairs. They are pros at rehabbing old buildings and have worked hard to secure permits to bring this building back to life. See HERE to learn more details of this worthwhile project.
The residents of Summerfield deserve credit, also, as they have worked hard to see that these historic buildings at the crossroads at Summerfield Road and Highway 150 not only remained standing, but were able to be restored to their former glory. Truly, Summerfield is becoming a charming destination a mere few miles north of Greensboro. Put the area on your list of places to explore over the summer while we are blessed with more daylight!
