Today’s photo is of the James Barnhill exhibit at the Continental Club at 8:16 South Elm Street. The exhibit is called “The Eternal Figure.” It will only be showing until June 5th, so, if you want to see it, head there soon. Works featured date from 1976-2020. Above, the large, colorful piece in the center is called Allegory, Four Seasons (2007). The two paintings to the right are self portraits.
Barnhill, born in Asheville in 1955, has an undergraduate degree from UNC Chapel Hill and a MFA degree in Sculpture from UNCG. You likely seen one of his many statues around town. The Minerva sculpture at UNCG, The General Nathanael Greene sculpture in downtown Greensboro, and the February One Monument on the NC A&T State campus are his work. Truly, he is documenting Greensboro’s history and images, one piece at a time. Thank you, Continental Club for showcasing local artists.
