Ride of Silence

Yesterday, the Ride of Silence united the cyclists around the globe in a silent procession to honor the cyclists who have been killed or hurt while cycling on public roadways. The goal is to remember, to advocate, and to make roads safer. The above photo dates from a couple of years ago when cyclists met on the Kontoor (Wrangler) Parking lot downtown.

Last night ride started at Lebauer Park from. The weather was a bit warm, but skies were clear. The cycling community is Greensboro works hard to build community. They encourage syslists to ride together. There is safety in number. The group rides require everyone to wear a helmet and lights. If you see a white bicycle on beside a road, you know a cyclist was killed in that spot. According to Spectrum News, the City of Greensboro actively maintains 62 miles of bike lanes and over 127 miles of mapped bike facilities when you include multi-use greenways and shared-use paths.
