Outdoors on Bald Eagle Trail

Nice weather on weekends is the perfect excuse for spending time outdoors. With temperatures edging up to nearly 90ºF today, we headed to the trails along Lake Higgins. We opted for the shorter stretch between the marina and Carlson Dairy Road. Early afternoon, in the heat of the day, there weren’t many people out. Due to the dry weather, the trail is currently easy to navigate.

There are several large trees that have been uprooted by nature. Fortunately, the path is not obstructed. Volunteers from the Fat Tire Bicycle Society contribute thousands of hours clearning debris, helping control soil erosion, and hosting community-led trail maintenance days. Above, on the north end of the trail, someone has taken one of the fallen trees and begun constructing a little fort. It reminded us of how important it is for children to get out and interact with nature. Although, on these city trails, it is best to adhere to the rule of staying on the trail. The trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset. Let us remember to use them and to be good stewards.

Happy Monday!
