A couple of days ago, we were walking along Walker Avenue and saw Sheldon Herman biking food to the UNCG student food pantry. After looking both ways, he carefully pulled over for a quick, safe conversation. Sheldon is a regular driving from the Spring Garden Street and Walker Avenue area to Barber Park, everywhere in between, and then some. He picks up produce from local grocery stores to deliver wherever it is needed.
Sheldon is also a key figure at the Greensboro Community Bike Shop at Barber Park, where people develop the skills to repair bicycles and those in need of transportation to work have the opportunity to receive a bicycle. Additionally, people can “check out” a bicycle to ride around in Barber Park. It is as easy as checking out a book from the public library. Sheldon is the person who first introduced us to the shop. Triad City Beat wrote a great article about the shop in 2023 (see HERE). We need more volunteers like Sheldon, working for the good of the community. If you are ever interested in helping, see Sheldon. He has lots of key community connections. Thank you for all you do, Sheldon.
Happy Friday!
