Train Depot: Summerfield

The railroad came through Summerfield, NC in 1887. The original depot was torn down in 1952 and a was replaced by a freight shed (above). Eventually, the shed was moved to the current site. Railroad tracks were removed in 1981.* Through all of this change, the railroad history has been preserved. The above historic site is located just down from the firestation, close to where Pleasant Ridge Road meets Summerfield Road.

It is so important to document history for future generations. There comes a time when nobody living has first-hand knowledge of a person, place, thing, or important event. Historic markers matter!
