Yesterday, we were driving past the Battleground Avenue location of Stamey’s Old-Fashioned Barbecue, and it reminded us that it is almost time for March Madness. Many ACC and NCAA tournament games have been played in the Greensboro Coliseum for decades.

The original Greensboro location for Stamey’s Barbecue is located at 2206 Gate City Boulevard, right across the street from the Coliseum. Regardless of who is playing basketball, BBQ is always a staple for fans attending games. During major basketball tournaments, Stamey’s revenue is said to increase by 30%.* In North Carolina in general, and Greensboro specifically, tradition is important. Someone may wait all year for that special BBQ order, or a trip to Yum Yum Better Ice Cream centered around basketball tournament watching. Also, we know our team alliegiances. The 2026 March Madness brackets (for men and women) will be released this Sunday. Since none of the games will be held in Greensboro this year, we’re thinking we can revise our tradition and go out for BBQ and fill out our brackets. North Carolina should be well represented on the bracket sheets.
